Award winning alumna and freelance photographer Danielle Villasana will give a guest lecture on September 20, 2023 at 6:30 pm in DMC 5.102, followed by an  opening and reception for her work which will be on exhibition in the School of Journalism and Media Photojournalism and Documentary Exhibition gallery.  The reception will include light refreshments and will take place in the DMC 3rd floor lobby. 

Villasana's work documenting the experiences of Central American asylumn seekers who are also trans women --the reasons they migrate, their experiences on the journey and their experiences after they apply for asylum has won support grants, photojournalism awards and has featured prominently in publications including National Geographic magazine among others.  She will share her work, experiences and advice for students who are interested in pursuing long term visual documentary work.
