Transnational Streaming Television: Reshaping Global Flows and Power
February 25, 4:30-6pm at CMB 2.112A
In this book talk promoted by the Center for Global Change and Media, authors discuss an innovative theoretical framework to conceptualize how asymmetrical dynamics of power reshape television streaming and impact the global flow of film and television productions.
It explores how global streamers – such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and HBO Max – are increasingly investing in productions in Latin America, Asia, and Europe, while local streaming platforms – Vix, Globoplay, and JioHotstar – emerge in the Global South.
Through specific case studies of Mexico, Brazil, and India, the book examines production from both global and local streaming platforms, and how it reshapes the audiovisual industry worldwide.
Speakers include:
Joseph Straubhaar, Professor Emeritus, University of Texas at Austin
