Students and faculty are invited to attend a screening of The In Between, acclaimed at the SXSW Film Festival, where it had its world premiere, followed by a Q&A with filmmakers Robie and Alex Flores. RTF Assistant Professor Iliana Sosa will moderate the discussion.

Following her brother’s death, filmmaker Robie Flores returns home to the Texas-Mexico border. Dancing playfully between personal and collective coming-of-age experiences, Robie rediscovers the possibilities of joy in the aftermath of grief, while offering a nuanced and unexpected portrait of the border.

Robie Flores (Writer, Director, Editor, and Director of Photography)
Robie Flores is an independent filmmaker and video editor based in New Orleans and Eagle Pass, Texas, drawn to telling stories that explore the nuances of her fronterizo and Mexican American communities. The In Between, which received support from Just Films, Chicken & Egg, Field of Vision, Firelight Media, and others, is her first documentary feature. She has also recently directed Boundless, a documentary short for Bridge Builders, an Independent Lens Stories for Justice series on criminal justice reform, and was the editor for Contessa Gayles' Queen Collective commissioned short documentary, Founder Girls.
Alejandro J. Flores (Writer, Producer, and Director of Photography)
Alejandro J Flores is a Texican filmmaker living between Mexico City and Eagle Pass. He is interested in exploring the intersections of queer and Fronterizo identity, its evolution, and how it can empower others. He produced The In Between which had its world premiere at SXSW 2024. He also co-directed Boundless, a short episode of Bridge Builders, a series from Independent Lens’ Stories for Justice about criminal legal reform. He and his sister, Robie, co-founded the independent production company, Ambiente Films.
